The stages
Preliminary examination (open book)
One objective General Knowledge paper in three parts, held when more than 40,000 applications are received. It is an open-book exam: you may bring three books, one each for General Studies, Mathematics and General Science, and only textbooks of NCERT, BSEB, ICSE and other boards are allowed. Guides, photocopies, handwritten notes and electronic devices are not, and nothing but your name and roll number may be written in the books. There is negative marking for wrong answers.
Main examination
Candidates equal to 5 times the category-wise vacancies are chosen from the Preliminary examination. The Commission will publish a separate advertisement for the Main examination, and only then will it ask candidates for their order of post preference. Advt. No. 02/23 (A) does not give the Main examination’s papers, marks or timing; it describes the examination as objective.
Typing / computer test
Candidates who pass the Main examination take a typing / computer test. The Commission will give its details after the written examination, and the advertisement does not say whether the test is qualifying only.
