SSC CGL Salary 2026: Official Pay Scale and Job Profile
SSC CGL fills Group ‘B’ and Group ‘C’ posts in central government ministries, departments and offices, and in constitutional and statutory bodies and tribunals. The 2026 notice lists 40 posts (the same post in different departments counts separately) at five pay levels, from Level 4 to Level 8. This page sticks to what the notice says about the posts, their pay and how posts are allotted. It does not describe daily duties or estimate take-home pay, because the notice does neither.

One exam, five pay levels
Which post and department you get depends on your Tier-II merit and the post preferences you give SSC. Once your merit gets you your first available preference you are not considered for any other, and preferences cannot be changed later.
Tier-II has a qualifying Computer Knowledge Test and a 15-minute Data Entry Speed Test (a passage of about 2,000 key depressions) for every post. Higher qualifying standards apply where computer proficiency or data-entry speed is prescribed, for example Assistant Section Officer in CSS, MEA and AFHQ, the three Inspector posts and Executive Assistant in CBIC, Postal Assistant / Sorting Assistant, and Tax Assistant in CBIC and CBDT.
Some posts have extra conditions. Inspector (Central Excise, Examiner, Preventive Officer) in CBIC, Inspector and Sub-Inspector in the Central Bureau of Narcotics, Sub-Inspector / Junior Intelligence Officer in NCB, Sub-Inspector in CBI and NIA, and posts in BRO have physical standards, physical tests and medical standards, checked by the department after selection. Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Accounts Officer (State Cadre) need proficiency in the state’s regional or official language. Junior Statistical Officer and Statistical Investigator Grade-II need particular subjects in the degree (or, for JSO, 60% in Mathematics at 12th level).
All the posts carry All India Service Liability, so you can be posted anywhere in India, and the department that takes you may allot you a state, UT or zone.

Probation and promotion
The notice does not describe promotion, which follows the recruitment rules of the department and cadre you join, and this page does not guess at it. The one service condition it spells out for a post: Assistant Audit Officers and Assistant Accounts Officers must pass the Subordinate Audit/Accounts Service Examination during probation to be confirmed.
Pay: Level 4 to Level 8, depending on the post
The notice gives the pay range of each level: Level 4 ₹25,500–₹81,100; Level 5 ₹29,200–₹92,300; Level 6 ₹35,400–₹1,12,400; Level 7 ₹44,900–₹1,42,400; Level 8 ₹47,600–₹1,51,100. The list above shows which posts sit at which level.
The notice does not list allowances or in-hand pay, and this page does not estimate them.
The official notice is the authority for posts, pay and vacancies, and it changes from cycle to cycle. Confirm current details against the SSC CGL 2026 notice.
