UP Police Constable Syllabus & Exam Pattern
UP Police Constable recruitment is a written test followed by a document and physical standard check and a timed physical efficiency test. Here’s the shape of it and the subjects tested, taken from the Board’s 2025 recruitment notification, with a link to the official source for the exact marks and timing.

The stages
Written test
One OMR-based objective paper covering the four subjects listed below. Your written-test score decides your merit, and a minimum is set for each category.
Document verification and physical standard test
A qualifying stage: your certificates are checked, and height and chest (men) or height and weight (women) are measured against the standards in the notification.
Physical efficiency test
A qualifying timed run, with a different distance and time limit for men and women. Not finishing within the limit ends your selection; clearing it does not add marks.
What’s tested in the written test
General Knowledge
General science, Indian history, the Indian Constitution, the Indian economy and culture, agriculture, commerce and trade, population, environment and urbanisation, the geography of India and the world, and natural resources. Uttar Pradesh specifics: education, culture and social practices, and the revenue, police and general administrative system. Also human rights, internal security and terrorism, India’s relations with its neighbours, current events of national and international importance, national and international organisations, demonetisation and its effects, cyber crime, goods and services tax, awards and honours, countries, capitals and currencies, important days, research and discoveries, books and authors, and social media communication.
General Hindi
Hindi and other Indian languages; the basics of Hindi grammar — alphabet, tadbhav and tatsam words, synonyms, antonyms, words with several meanings, one word for a phrase, look-alike words with different meanings, correcting incorrect sentences, gender, number, case, pronoun, adjective, verb, tense, voice, indeclinables, prefixes, suffixes, sandhi, samas, punctuation, idioms and proverbs, ras, chhand and alankar; unseen passages; well-known poets, writers and their works; and awards in Hindi.
Numerical and Mental Ability
Number system, simplification, decimals and fractions, HCF and LCM, ratio and proportion, percentage, profit and loss, discount, simple and compound interest, partnership, average, time and work, time and distance, use of tables and graphs, and mensuration. Also logical items such as logical diagrams, symbol–relationship interpretation, perception tests, word formation, letter and number series, word and alphabet analogy, common sense, direction sense, logical interpretation of data, forcefulness of argument and determining implied meanings.
Mental Aptitude, IQ and Reasoning Ability
Relationship and analogy tests, spotting the dissimilar, series completion, coding and decoding, direction sense, blood relations, problems on the alphabet, time sequence, Venn diagrams and chart-type tests, mathematical ability and arranging in order. Also analogies, similarities and differences, space visualisation, problem solving, analysis and judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, and handling abstract ideas and symbols and their relationships.
The Board calls its syllabus indicative, and each cycle’s notification sets its own marks, timing and qualifying standards, which can change. Treat the subjects above as the shape to study toward, and check the Board’s own official site.

What this recruitment is for
The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board fills Constable posts in the Civil Police, PAC / Armed Police, Special Security Force, Women Battalions and Mounted Police, and Jail Warder posts, through one common written test.
