Double Row Seating Questions with Solutions
Two rows face each other, and every clue about one row has a mirror effect on the other — the method is still Seating Arrangement’s clue-by-clue elimination, just tracking two rows and the "faces" relationship between them. Here’s the approach, one shared puzzle with four fully worked questions, and a few more to try yourself.
The approach, quickly
- Draw two parallel rows of blank slots. Unless stated otherwise, the person in a given position in one row faces the person in the SAME position (counted from the same side) in the other row.
- Place the most restrictive clues first — an exact end position ("sits at the extreme left of Row 1") — exactly as in single-row Seating Arrangement.
- A "faces" clue links one slot in Row 1 directly to one slot in Row 2 — use it to transfer information you’ve already fixed in one row across to the other.
- Fill in whatever is forced directly by the clues first; the last remaining person for the last remaining slot in each row is then fixed by elimination.
Worked examples
1. Four people — A, B, C and D — sit in Row 1, facing South. Four people — P, Q, R and S — sit in Row 2, facing North, each directly facing one person in Row 1. A sits at the extreme left end of Row 1. D sits at the extreme right end of Row 1. B sits second from the left in Row 1. Q faces A. P sits immediately to the right of Q in Row 2. R faces D. Who sits at the extreme right end of Row 1?
Solution
- Row 1: A is at position 1 (extreme left), D is at position 4 (extreme right), B is at position 2 — by elimination, C is at position 3.
- Row 2: Q faces A, so Q is at position 1. P is immediately right of Q, so P is at position 2. R faces D, so R is at position 4 — by elimination, S is at position 3.
- Full arrangement — Row 1: A, B, C, D. Row 2: Q, P, S, R.
Answer: D
2. Using the same puzzle and clues, who faces B?
Solution
- From the full arrangement, B is at position 2 in Row 1, and the person at position 2 in Row 2 is P.
Answer: P
3. Using the same puzzle and clues, who sits immediately to the left of C in Row 1?
Solution
- From the full arrangement — A, B, C, D — the person immediately to the left of C (position 3) is B (position 2).
Answer: B
4. Using the same puzzle and clues, who faces the person sitting second from the left in Row 1?
Solution
- The person second from the left in Row 1 is B (position 2), and the person facing position 2 in Row 2 is P.
Answer: P
