SSC GD Constable Salary 2026: Official Pay Scale and Job Profile

SSC GD is one exam that recruits Constables (General Duty) for several central forces and Riflemen (General Duty) for Assam Rifles. This page sticks to what the SSC notice itself says about the posts, the pay level and how you are allotted to a force. It does not describe duties or estimate take-home pay, because the notice does neither.

One exam, several forces

The notice recruits Constable (GD) in the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Secretariat Security Force (SSF), and Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles. Selection has five steps: a computer-based exam, the Physical Efficiency Test, the Physical Standard Test, a medical examination and document verification.

You fill in a preference order for the forces in the application form, and all of them must be filled. The final result with force allocation is declared on CBE merit and those preferences, provided you qualify the physical tests, the medical examination and the other conditions in the notice.

Candidates recommended for appointment are liable to serve anywhere in India. Appointments can come in phases, because they depend on seats in the forces’ training facilities.

The posts and how vacancies are filled

Constable (GD): BSF, CISF, CRPF, SSB, ITBP

Vacancies are filled state-wise or UT-wise on the basis of the domicile or permanent residence certificate of the state you choose. Some vacancies are earmarked for border-guarding districts and for militancy or Naxal-affected districts, for candidates of those districts only.

Constable (GD): SSF (Secretariat Security Force)

Vacancies in SSF are filled on an all-India basis, not state-wise.

Rifleman (GD): Assam Rifles

Filled state-wise or UT-wise, like the other forces apart from SSF.

Promotion

The SSC notice does not describe promotion. It says that joining, in-service matters, seniority and training are governed by the rules of the force that takes you.

Pay: Pay Level 3

The notice gives Pay Level 3, ₹21,700 to ₹69,100, for all the posts. It does not list allowances or in-hand pay, and this page does not estimate them.
