Anant Nag selected for Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2024

The government announced that veteran Kannada actor Anant Nag would receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024, India's highest award in cinema. The presentation is scheduled for the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony at Kevadia, Gujarat, on September 22, 2026. The award recognises outstanding contribution to Indian cinema over a lifetime and includes a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of ₹10 lakh. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is administered by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and named after Dadasaheb Phalke, regarded as the father of Indian cinema for directing, producing, writing, editing and distributing Raja Harishchandra (1913), India's first full-length feature film, first shown at Bombay's Olympia Picture Palace on 21 April 1913.
