PM Modi inaugurates international conference on environment and climate dynamics

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a two-day International Conference on "The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics" at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, organised by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), with judges, environmentalists, and government and judicial officials from 17 countries taking part before the conference concluded on 20 September. Discussions covered environmental justice, climate governance, and institutional contributions to environmental protection. In his address, Modi said developed nations produce about six times more per-capita carbon emissions than India, arguing that developing countries are often unfairly blamed for climate change despite their comparatively small historical contribution. The inaugural session was attended by Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant, Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav, Attorney General R. Venkataramani, and NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava - reflecting the conference's cross-cutting focus on the judiciary's role in environmental governance alongside government and international participation.
