President appoints 14 judicial officers as High Court judges

The Central Government notified the appointment of 14 judicial officers as Judges and Additional Judges across the Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Jharkhand and Karnataka High Courts on 19 September, exercising the President's power under Article 217 of the Constitution after consultation with the Chief Justice of India. Delhi High Court received two Judges (Nivedita Anil Sharma and Nisha Sahay Saxena) and five Additional Judges (Sanjay Sharma, Bharat Parashar, Aditi Choudhary, Dinesh Bhatt and Arun Bhardwaj); Jharkhand High Court received three Judges (Manoj Prasad, Akhil Kumar and Ram Sharma); Karnataka High Court received three Additional Judges (Usharani, K. S. Bharath Kumar and Nerale V. Bhavani); and Judicial Officer Yashpal Bourney was appointed Judge of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. Article 217 governs the appointment and conditions of office of a High Court judge; a permanent judge holds office until the age of 62, while an Additional Judge is appointed for a fixed term pending confirmation as a permanent Judge.
