Alphanumeric Series Questions with Solutions
Each term pairs a letter with a number, and the two run as separate, parallel patterns — solve them independently using Alphabet Series and Number Series methods, then combine the results. Here’s the approach, four fully worked examples, and a few to try yourself.
The approach, quickly
- Split each term into its letter part and its number part, and track them as two separate sequences — don’t try to find one pattern connecting both at once.
- Solve the letter sequence exactly like Alphabet Series: convert to position numbers (A=1, B=2, …) and find the gap between consecutive positions.
- Solve the number sequence exactly like Number Series: check the difference, the ratio, or a formula family (squares, n(n+1), doubling) between consecutive terms.
- Once you’ve found both patterns separately, apply each one once more to get the letter and the number of the missing term, then combine them into the final answer.
Worked examples
1. Find the missing term: A1, C4, E9, G16, ?
Solution
- Letters: A, C, E, G — each position +2 (1, 3, 5, 7), so the next is position 9 = I.
- Numbers: 1, 4, 9, 16 — these are 1², 2², 3², 4², so the next is 5² = 25.
Answer: I25
2. Find the missing term: B2, D6, F12, H20, ?
Solution
- Letters: B, D, F, H — each position +2 (2, 4, 6, 8), so the next is position 10 = J.
- Numbers: 2, 6, 12, 20 — these are 1×2, 2×3, 3×4, 4×5, so the next is 5×6 = 30.
Answer: J30
3. Find the missing term: Z25, X20, V15, T10, ?
Solution
- Letters: Z, X, V, T — each position −2 (26, 24, 22, 20), so the next is position 18 = R.
- Numbers: 25, 20, 15, 10 — each −5, so the next is 5.
Answer: R5
4. Find the missing term: C6, F12, I18, L24, ?
Solution
- Letters: C, F, I, L — each position +3 (3, 6, 9, 12), so the next is position 15 = O.
- Numbers: 6, 12, 18, 24 — each +6, so the next is 30.
Answer: O30
Try these yourself
Solve the letter and number patterns separately, then check against the answer.

3. Find the missing term: E10, H16, K22, N28, ?
Answer: Q34
