India's first port-based e-methanol plant gets foundation stone at Kandla

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for India's first port-based e-methanol production facility at Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, Gujarat, on 26 September 2026. The Rs 2,300 crore plant, a joint venture between DPA and Namrup-based Assam Petro-Chemicals Ltd (76:24 capital ratio), will produce green methanol at about US$750 per tonne (versus a global rate of US$1,300) for supply to ships on the Asia-Europe trade corridor, supporting the Prime Minister's Net Zero 2070 goal. It will be built in two phases (50 tonnes/day by January 2027, a further 100 tonnes/day by March 2027) and is expected to create more than 3,500 direct and indirect jobs.
