Highlights of Telecom Subscription Data at the end of August 2026

TRAI's telecom subscription data for August 2026 showed total telephone subscribers in India reached 1,360.70 million, a net addition of 6.42 million (0.47% monthly growth) over July 2026. Total broadband subscribers rose to 1,101.21 million, up 0.61% for the month, drawn from 1,579 reporting operators. Overall tele-density (with M2M connections) stood at 95.07%, with urban tele-density at 155.00% and rural at 61.12%. Reliance Jio led the broadband market with 538.03 million subscribers, ahead of Bharti Airtel (386.39 million) and Vodafone Idea (130.88 million); the top five operators together held 98.58% market share. 15.83 million subscribers submitted Mobile Number Portability (MNP) requests during the month.
